Fantasy artist, Betsy Rosado, makes her home and studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. Even though she studied fashion design and illustration in New York and animation in Florida she considers herself largely a self-taught artist. Her original works of art consist of watercolor, pen and ink as well as digital painting. Although she has drawn and painted since early childhood Betsy began her art career in 1998 and launched her web site in 2008 at the prompting of supportive family and friends.
In addition to illustrating Betsy has done graphic design and product design for The Dalí Museum for several years. Her desire to create fantasy art urged her to move in the direction of her dreams and follow her heart’s desire within the fantasy genre. Betsy draws inspiration from many areas such as fantasy, epic and period movies, fairy tales, fiction, music as well as artists past and present such as J.W. Waterhouse, Arthur Rackham, Kay Nielsen, Edmund Dulac, Yoshitaka Amano, Alan Lee, Brian Froud, Salvador Dalí, Lord Frederick Leighton, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and many more.
Her visions on paper can be enigmatic and haunting as well as lighthearted and airy. When asked about her art she responded by saying, “I’ve always been attracted to the make-believe worlds, myths and folklore. When I draw it’s like taking a journey into a different realm and whenever I have an idea for a painting I know that I never know exactly how it’s going to turn out in the end, but I’m always pleasantly surprised. I guess for me the magic is in the journey as well as the end result. My hope is that I can share with each and everyone a little bit of magic every time you see my art."
My best fairy wishes to all
Betsy
